Exploring light sources
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog
This week in science, we started our new topic on ‘Light’. The children sorted different images, according to whether they were a light source or not. They then sorted the light sources into man-made and natural. We had some interesting answers to begin with! But it was a real insight into what the children already knew and we are looking forward to exploring darkness next week.
Maths Investigators!
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog
The whole school were set a mathematical challenge by Mr Routledge this week using geometrical shapes and counters. The children had 36 counters each and had to arrange them in rows using different shapes in order to help create different packaging shapes for a sweet shop. There was some amazing mathematical discussions amongst the children as well as brilliant collaborative work. See if your child can tell you what we found out at home!
Does the person with the longest legs always jump the furthest?
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog
To complete our topic on ‘Animals and humans’ the children carried out a scientific investigation- Does the person with the longest legs always jump the furthest? There were some excellent reasons for predictions by the children including, does weight cause an issue, the amount of effort used for a jump and how much practice you do! The scientific enquiry focus was comparative testing and the children were able to analyse and compare their data to find the answer to the question. We had a real mixture of results!
Artists at work
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog
This week the children in year 3 started the painting stage of their art project. They practiced colour mixing to begin with by adding white to lighten colours and greys to create darker shades. They then painted their landscape onto material of either the ocean or a field. Next week the children will add some running stitches to their landscapes to add texture and detail. Wish us luck with the sewing!!
Arctic Adventure Stories!
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog
The children have all really enjoyed creating their own endings to our class read ‘The Last Bear’ and we have some real budding authors in year 3! All of the children worked really hard on their stories from planning their ending, writing a draft, editing and then publishing their final copy. We hope you all enjoyed reading some of them on our wonderful display on Parent Consultation Evenings. Thank you to Miss McNamara for an amazing display!
Finally, thank you to all of you who attended our consultation meetings last week. It was wonderful to meet you all in person and share the great progress all of the children have made since starting in year 3.
