Life cycle of a plant

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog

Today we completed our final lesson on plants in science. We rounded off our learning by explaining the life-cycle of a plant which includes germination, growth, pollination, seed formation and seed dispersal. Here are just a few pieces of their amazing explanations.

Sculptures

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog

This week in art we have been sculpting our birds as part of our project on illustration and character. The children worked independently to create a sculpture of a bird using clay that they will then decorate next week. There were some great moulding skills and we learnt how to create texture and create unique parts of the bird. There was also great partnership and support displayed by all the children, and we are looking forward to seeing the final product next week.

Royal Armouries Trip

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog

Today year 3 really enjoyed a fantastic trip to the Royal Armouries in order to support their learning on the Ancient Greeks. The children took part in a storytelling workshop based on some of the Greek myths we have covered in class and they also attended some Spartan training. In the afternoon we also had some time to explore the museum and find out more about Greek war armour. All of the children were exceptionally well behaved and we were so proud of them and how they represented Adel St John whilst out of school.

Healthy Living Week- Seasonal tarts

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 3 Class Blog

As part of healthy living week, we have carried out our DT project which involved designing and making a seasonal tart, either savoury or sweet. The project began by researching which different fruits and vegetables grow during the summer season in Britain. We then carried out some taste testing of some of these fruits and vegetables, as well as other toppings. The children then designed and made their own seasonal tarts with the skills focus being on using a claw and bridge grip when chopping different fruits and vegetables. We also discussed why good hygiene is important when handling food. They can’t wait to eat them tomorrow!

This week as part of ‘Healthy Living Week’ the children took part in a yoga session with Amy from the YMCA who takes the children regularly for PE on a Wednesday. The children learnt how to control their breathing in a calm and relaxed setting.
