Fire Of London Art

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

Today we have been creating artwork inspired by the Fire of London. We built on the colour mixing we did earlier in the week to mix our own firey colours using red, yellow and white paint. Then we cut silhouettes of buildings out of black paper and stuck them on. Super artwork Year 1!

World Book Day

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

Year 1 had a great day for World Book Day today! They especially enjoyed a visit from Year 5 who came and shared some books with us.

Virtual Mosque Tour

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

This week, as part of our RE learning about Muslims, Year 1 enjoyed taking a virtual tour around three different mosques from around the world.  They visited Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque in Abu Dhabi, Nasir-al-Mulk Mosque in Iran and Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque in Oman all from the comfort of our classroom. They could spot the dome, minaret, prayer mats and mihrab that can be found in most mosques. All of the children agreed that the mosques were amazing places of worship and showed good mastery of the VR headsets!

Puppets

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

We had a great day in Year 1 today, focussing on DT and making puppets. We designed our puppets and tested two methods of joining fabric before we got on with making them. Staples was the most popular way of joining the felt, but we also found glue useful for adding details! I am sure you will agree that the finished puppets look fantastic. What a super day Year 1!

In The Groove

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

In music in Year 1 we are learning to perform the song 'In the Groove'. Today we added accompaniment using glockenspiels. We had to find the right notes and play them carefully, in unison, with the right rhythm.
