Health and Wellbeing Week

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

What a busy week we have had for Health and Wellbeing Week! Year 1 have taken part in Sports Day, a skipping workshop, a calming yoga session, a running challenge and lots of PSHE including a focus on sun safety. Today we were thinking about healthy food and enjoyed making a delicious and healthy Greek salad. Most of the children enjoyed tasting it too!

Clay Minibeasts

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

Before half term Year 1 made some wonderful minbeasts out of clay as the culmination of our recent learning in art. We left them to dry over the holidays and today we painted them, choosing and mixing our colours carefully. Well done Year 1!

Science - All About Plants

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

This half term in science we have been learning all about plants, with a big focus on learning the basic parts of plants and their functions. Today we used magnifying glasses to more closely examine some of the plants in our school grounds and discussed which parts we could see. We then did a matching activity to practise identifying seeds and the plants they come from.

Henri Rousseau

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

In art today we have been learning about the art of Henri Rousseau. We found out a bit about the artist, and looked at his famous painting, Tiger in a Tropical Storm (Surprised!). We used oil pastels to extend the foliage that Rousseau painted, looking in detail at the colours and shapes.

Drawing Minibeasts

Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 1 Class Blog

Year 1 have been using their observation skills to look carefully at photographs of minibeasts. Then they used their tracing and sketching skills to make minibeast drawings. Well done Year 1!
