Murton Park Visit and Timestables songs!
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 2 Class Blog
On Monday, Year 4 visited Murton Park to immerse themselves in the history of the Romans. We have started learning about the Romans in Britain and the day gave us an insight into what it might have been like for Roman soldiers living in a fort near York. They took part in lots of learning including writing in Latin, making clay lamps, spear and sword training and creating the iconic tortoise defence with shields. We returned to school full of excitement for the rest of our learning in history this half term.
Each week we will be focusing on a different multiplication table as our first morning activity. Next week is the 6x table and to start this off, we joined in with MC Grammar on singing and rapping the 6x table. There are some great songs by MC Grammar to help with lots of different areas of the curriculum. Link to the 6x table song below:
Year 2 Spelling Homework
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 2 Class Blog
Tonight we are sending home our weekly spelling homework. This is a list of words taken from our previous learning in phonics and the National Curriculum Year 1 and Year 2 spelling list.
The children can practise spelling the words by saying and writing the word on one side of the sheet and exploring the word further on the opposite side.
Please feel free to practise the spellings in other ways if that better suits your child eg use magnetic letters, using technology or painting.
You do not need to return the sheet to school as we will use the words in a dictation the following week to check the children's learning.
Getting into Routine
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 2 Class Blog
This week has been the children's first full week with all their lessons! It's been a busy one but there has been lots of fun and learning. They have started their DT topic on fairground rides, got engrossed in James and the Giant Peach and had lots of practical maths, creating and partitioning numbers to 100.
Welcome to Year 2!
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 2 Class Blog
It’s been a great first week in Year 2! The children have all seemed excited to be back and have got stuck in with all their new learning!
We have been looking at a book called The Planet in a Pickle Jar, which is all about preserving our favourite things so they never disappear and our week’s learning culminated in us making our own pickle jars to save the world this afternoon! It was lovely to see so many creative ideas - trees, weather, animals, food - see for yourselves below!
We have also been working practically in maths, making numbers to 100 with various apparatus, counting in groups of 10 to help us count more quickly and easily.
Well done, Year 2! Have a lovely weekend ready for more next week!
Money challenge!
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 2 Class Blog
In PSHE we have been learning about money and jobs. We had an additional challenge to work out the total if we had one of each note and coin.
We spent time using the money resources in class and working systematically to find the answer.

Robot Algorithms
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 2 Class Blog
Year 2 have started their first lesson of robot algorithms today in computing. We began by giving each other instructions to follow. It was hard to be really precise and follow the instructions exactly like a robot would.
Online Safety Week
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 2 Class Blog
This week the whole school has been learning about online safety. In year 2 we have been learning about how anything we post online stays there and can be accessed even if deleted. We have looked at different devices at home that can we linked to the internet and how to do an online search with keywords to make results more suitable.
Children’s Mental Health Week
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 2 Class Blog
This week, we have been thinking about Children’s Mental Health Week. The theme this year is ‘This is my place’ which focuses on belonging being good for our mental health. Each child in school has made a map of all the places they feel they belong. Here are some Year 2 examples.
History of Adel walk
Peter Dalrymple (PDalrymple) on: Year 2 Class Blog
Year 2 had a very wet walk around Adel this morning as part of their local history topic. We stopped at lots of historically significant places on our walk. It’s fantastic to see all the children so enthusiastic about the history that is on their doorstep!
