Letter from the Chair of Governors - Parent Governor Vacancy

23 July 2021 (by Debra Dean (DDean))

Dear Parents,

From September we will have a vacancy for a Parent Governor on the School Board of Governors at ASJ. This is a fantastic opportunity to really get to know the school and to help the school to be the best that it can possibly be. Governors ideally join the Board for a period of four years at a time. In each year a governor will be involved in four meetings of the Full Governing board and 3-5 meetings of any sub-committees that they join (Governors are expected to join a minimum of one committee).

The only pre-requisite for becoming a Parent Governor is that the person would have a child enrolled for full time education at the school.

However, this is an opportunity for us to further strengthen the Board of Governors and to look at any skills gaps that we have. The Governing Board is currently made up of people with a wide range of skills and experience, but we don't currently have anybody with experience of working in HR. Ideally any candidates would have this experience, but it is by no means essential. A proactive approach to working in a team, creative thinking and dedication are what is really needed most.

If you would like some more information or you would like to nominate yourself or somebody else (please ask their permission first) please send an email to andy.neal@adel-st-john.leeds.sch.uk with a personal statement of no more than 100 words describing why you would like to be a governor and what you feel you have to contribute to the Governing Board. If we have more than one nomination, these personal statements will be published as part of an election for the parents of the school to appoint their next Parent Governor. The closing date for nominations is Sunday 19th September 2021.

Thank you all, and have a great summer!

Andy Neal
