RSE (Relationships and Sex Education) - Parent Survey

19 November 2020 (by Debra Dean (DDean))

Dear Parents/Carers,

At Adel St John Primary School, we believe partnership with our parents is vital to achieve the best outcomes for our pupils. We are therefore contacting you to seek your views on an important aspect of your child’s education.

From the beginning of the Summer term 2021, all primary schools will be required by law to teach Relationships Education and Health Education. More details can be found at:

We will also continue to teach sex education beyond the National Curriculum Science (in Year 6), which is strongly recommended by the Department for Education, however you will continue to have the right to request that your child is excused from sex education. Please see the government’s factual guide to RSE for parents here:

Our teaching of these subjects is based on the belief that it is essential to give our children a shared language so everyone understands, and everyone is understood. This is important for keeping our children safe, so they can be easily understood when talking about their bodies and feelings. It will also enable them to have informed discussions about their own health and wellbeing.

We hope this process will also help you to understand how you can support your child’s learning with your own teaching at home. We are therefore sending you a short survey to complete. Although, this is not an anonymous survey because we would like to support all our families, your responses will be treated in the strictest confidence. Whilst we will take all feedback on board, it is the responsibility of the Governors and Headteacher to make the final decision on what will be taught and we will share this with you.

The survey can be accessed via the link below. Closing date for responses is Friday 27th November 2020 at 4pm

Thank you in advance for taking the time to complete this survey. If there is anything you would like to discuss in the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me via email anna.white@adel-st-john.leeds.sch.uk

Yours sincerely,

Anna White (PSHE Co-Ordinator)
